Tipping has been in the news lately as Joe's Crab Shack has announced a possible plan to increase employee hourly rates, raise menu prices and eliminate tips.

According to a published report, in areas where the concept was tested, hourly employee rates increased from just over $2.00 an hour to $14.00 an hour. Menu prices will increase anywhere from 12% to 15%.

I like to consider myself a pretty good tipper. A vast majority of waiters and waitresses I encounter work hard, so I try to be generous when I tip. If you're a good tipper, you may wonder if the workers are going to lose money in the deal.

On the other hand, servers I've talked to tell stories of tiny tips or no tips at all on a regular basis, so I guess it could go either way.

So what do you think? Do you like the idea of eliminating tips and paying a little more for menu items?
