Red Sox Winning Pitcher Last Night Is A Jersey Boy

It turns out the winning pitcher in the game that eliminated the Yankees from the playoffs last night is a Jersey boy.

Rick Porcello, who pitched 5 strong innings for the Boston Red Sox last night in a game the Yankees had to win, grew up in Morristown. And not only that, it turns out he was a Mets fan. Ouch.

That is a lot of irony for a morning when Yankees fans are reeling from a heartbreaking loss that eliminated them from the postseason. Porcello got the win after pitching 5 innings of 4 hit, one run ball.

Porcello's performance is not new news to the Yankees or Yankees fans. Porcello has been giving them fits all season. He was 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA against them this season in 4 starts.

He was a star at Seton Hall Prep between 2003-2007, according to nj.com, and has enjoyed great success in the major leagues, with a 135-106 regular season record, including 17-7 this season.

So, Porcello is a New Jersey native beat the Yankees last night, grew up a Mets fan, and plays for the Boston Red Sox. That's a lot of rivalry in one sentence.

And I know this doesn't mean much to Yankees fans this morning, especially coming from a Mets fan, but I did want to say congratulations to the Bombers on an awesome season.
