I had the chance to meet 14 year old Mike Mullee from Middletown at the Point's Breakwater Beach Bash at the beginning of the summer and he made quite an impression.

He walked over to me and handed me a letter he had prepared for me. The letter told of his love for sports and how after being diagnosed with a serious heart issue which is being tended to by the amazing folks at Monmouth Ocean Children's Heart Center, he decided he wanted to chase the dream of being a sportscaster just like Gary Cohen of the New York Mets and asked if he could spend some time at the Point learning a little bit about broadcasting.
I was so moved by his enthusiasm that I invited him to join us this morning, not to observe, but to actually broadcast our sports reports during today's morning show. I did it because I think he's going to do a great job and because he inspired me to remind all kids that if you have a dream, go for it. Mike is a great example of not letting any obstacle, no matter how big or small, sidetrack you from a dream.
So this morning you have an opportunity, for the first time, to maybe hear a future Gary Cohen. And you will certainly hear a great kid doing a great job and taking a first step toward a dream. And I think that's awesome! And it doesn't hurt that he's a fellow Mets fan!
