Unofficially, summer is here. Officially, it starts this weekend. Either way, it's a good time to remind ourselves of some important summer safety tips.

We spoke with Stephanie Reynolds, Director of Emergency Medicine at Riverview Medical Center for a summer safety Q & A session. We talked about avoiding things  like dehydraton, heatstroke and heat exhaustion, as well as pool and ocean safety.

Here's some stuff we learned (or got reminded about). The worst time of the day for sun exposure is 11:00am to 4:00pm. The drinks you should avoid to prevent dehydration and heat exhaustion are alcohol, anything with caffeine and try to stay away from drinks that are full of sugar.

And please remind the kids not to play any "holding your breath" games in the pool, and when swimming in the ocean, make sure you keep an eye on the kids and make sure to only swim when lifeguards are present.                  .

That Jersey Shore summer sun can be brutal. Add the humidity, you might have a recipe for a bad situation, so please stay safe, healthy and happy this summer.
