One thing Jersey Shore residents are passionate about are their flip flops. So how far will we go before we abandon them?

I have made a commitment to myself to stick with the flip flops until my birthday, which is October 23rd, and I thought that was a pretty big deal, but the more I talk to Jersey Shore residents, the more I realize that I may not have gone far enough.

I ran into a group of locals the other day at the Target in Brick, and I noticed at checkout that our whole line was sporting flip flops, so I asked how long they were going to stick with it.

Two of the other people on line (one man and one woman) said there goal was to wear them until some snow covered the ground. And if there was no significant snow, they'd go through the whole winter wearing them. In my opinion, that's a bit of wishful thinking on a couple of levels

The other woman said she just wanted to get though October and then make the change. That sounds like a pretty good plan to me. Regardless of each person's particular plan, one thing is for sure. To us, flip flops are more than just footwear.

To Jersey Shore residents, those flip flops are a piece of summer that we have some control over. And they remind us of the time of year that makes the place we live world famous. And they also remind us of a time of year filled with happy memories through our lives. At least that's how I feel.

So, when you see a flip flop wearing Jersey Shore resident on a chilly fall day, or even a cold winter day, show your support. After all, we are in this together.
