Here are two great ideas for trading in some of those sweets for something even better!

The Switch Witch is my favorite, and my boys agree! We started the tradition last year after a listener suggested it. In case you haven't heard of it, here's how it works. You let your kids fill up their sacks while trick-or-treating. Once you get back home, let them empty their loot out, sort through it, and pick out about 5 - 10 of their favorite treats to eat.

The rest of the candy gets put in a bag out on your front porch with a note to the Switch Witch saying that she can take this candy.

Then, in the night, while the kids are fast asleep, the Switch Witch swoops in, takes the candy, and leaves a gift that's NOT candy for your child.

If your kids agree to this, they could end up with a great present.....and you don't have to worry about all of that candy that they would have spent days or weeks consuming!

My boys actually look forward to this, because the Switch Witch seems to know exactly what they would like more than candy!

Another idea that has been going around for years (but not nearly as fun as the Switch Witch) is to find a dentist in your area that will let your child trade their candy for money! (Some do a dollar a pound, some do a penny a piece, etc.) It's good way for dentists to promote dental health, but unless they're paying big bucks, this might only work on really little kids.
