The first hotel in this town was called the Ocean Beach House (1873)

It was known as “The City of Elco” for a month in 1889 before getting the name it now has.

I was going to add the clue that the current name of the town means "beautiful sea" in French, but I thought that would really make it too easy. if you don't know by now, the correct answer is BELMAR.
