Haven/Beat the Streets, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the homeless and marginalized in Ocean and Atlantic counties is holding a fundraiser at the Manahawkin Applebees

The fundraiser will be held on April 22 from 8:00 -10:00 am and costs $15.00 for a ticket.

Volunteers are also needed to help out at the fundraiser to either be a server or greeter at the door.

"This money is going to be used to help Haven with our vision, and our vision is to locate a building and open and operate the first Toms River code blue homeless rescue mission," Martha Barnhill, the outreach coordinator for HBTS said.

Haven/Beat the Streets became involved with the Ocean County Code Blue program which falls under the state legislation, Code Blue law, that was passed in May of 2017.

The law says every county must provide the homeless with shelter during severe weather and dangerously low or high temperatures.

"The facility will serve as transitional housing for the area's homeless population while also addressing the barriers holding them back from moving forward in society," Barnhill said.

Haven/Beat the Streets also has a program that includes housing you can afford, case management workers, information referrals, economic education, transportation and subsidies for housing and utilities.

"We are always looking for donations and if it's not monetary donations you can donate in other ways," Barnhil said. "We need clothing, toothbrushes, soap, wipes and all kinds of personal care items."

Coats, hats, gloves and shoes are also needed.

Donations can be made through their Facebook and their website.

Tickets for the breakfast can be purchased in advance by contacting Scott Martin at 732-267-0455 or scottmartin567@gmail.com.

You can also get tickets at the door on the day of the fundraiser.

For information on how to donate items contact the director of Haven/Beat the Streets, Paul Hulse at 386-315-0168.
