One of two dogs rescued from fire at home of Pine Beach Officer has died

We've got some sad news to pass along today, over 24-hours after two dogs were rescued from a burning home one of them has died, according to the K-9 Valor Task Force.

"We'd like to thank everyone who has reached out to help Russ and K-9 Keto during this devastating time." Sue DesMarais, President of the K-9 Valor Task Force said. "I, however, regret to announce that his other dog, Lola, passed away late last night. I'm sure you can imagine how heartbroken Russ and his family are right now."

Lola was the family's 8-year old dog.

DesMarais tells WOBM News that Keto has now officially been discharged and is expected to make a full recovery.

There are still ways you can help out K-9 dog 'Keto' and Russell Okinksy after the devastating fire Saturday morning.

"Many of the specific items that Keto and Russell need have been taken care of but he could really use household items and clothes," DesMarais said. "Gift cards would be appreciated for this so he can pick out what he needs."

If you'd like to donate directly to the vet bill for Keto and Lola, you can get in touch with the Garden State Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls.

If you'd like to send items and/or donations directly to Russ, you can send them to 112 Manhattan Street in Jackson 08527.

K-9 Valor is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit so donations are tax deductible.

"I'd again like to thank everyone for the overwhelming support of Russell and Keto, it's been amazing and incredibly appreciated," DesMarais said.

A Spaghetti Dinner is also being planned for this coming Sunday in Toms River.
