We checked the weather history books and found the three rainiest months in the history of New Jersey, and the totals are impressive.

You might expect that the rainiest months in the Garden State would be during the spring, but it turns out two of the rainiest months on record, including the one that occupies the top spot, are in the summer.

Rain, Rain Go Away, At Least For New Jersey

The records found at the Office of the New Jersey Climatologist website show there have been three months since 1895 in New Jersey where there has been over 11 inches of rain.

And here's the bad news for the summer lovers out there. Two of those rain-soaked months were in the middle of a New Jersey summer.

We had to go back to 1897 to find the 3rd rainiest New Jersey month on record. It was July of that year when 11.37 inches of rain fell.

The Top Two Rainiest Months in New Jersey History

We had 11.99 inches of rainfall in the Garden State in October of 2005, making it the 2nd rainiest New Jersey month on record.

The month that holds the top spot for the most rain in a month in New Jersey happened not too long ago.

In August 2011 New Jersey was hit with an unbelievable 15.67 inches of rain, easily making it the wettest month in New Jersey history. Let's hope that doesn't happen again this year.
