Eatery Destroyed by Sandy to Reopen
A Sea Bright landmark that was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy has been given approval to reopen by the Borough Planning Board.
McLoone's Rum Runner at 816 Ocean Avenue sits on the Shrewsbury River.
After the storm devastated the building, the insurance payout didn't cover the $3-4 million cost to rebuild.
The old structure is set to be demolished soon according to Word on the Shore, replaced by a new structure that will be elevated 10 feet. It will be slightly smaller than the old restaurant, but will accommodate more parking. It will also have an outdoor deck with a bar and outdoor dining.
It's so great to see places coming back, especially in places that were as hard hit as Sea Bright. After the storm, it was tough to ride up 36 and see local favorites like the Rum Runner completely destroyed.
It's such a beautiful spot on the Shore and I can't wait to check out the new building!
McLoone's Rum Runner is expected to open by summer 2015.
