We do a lot of things very well here in New Jersey, but saying words the right way is not one of them.

Every state in the nation has its special way of saying things, and here in the Garden State, our unique style leads us to say certain words in our little way.

We also shut our mouths, opened our ears, and started a list of our own. Some of the words surprised us, and some we hear all the time.

The Most Mispronounced Words In New Jersey

Coffee. Even though most of us say it CAW-fee, the correct pronunciation is KAA-fee, but with the amount we drink, we should be able to say it however we want.

Talk. If there is one thing we do more than drinking coffee here in New Jersey, is it talking, and for all the "taak".

Drawer  Sometimes we drop a letter, and sometimes we drop 2. In New Jersey, we fold our clothes and put them in a "draw". Everybody else puts them in a drawer (dro-r).

Water. We all get thirsty, but here in the Garden State, we drink WAH-ter. The rest of the country drinks WAA-tr.

Call  When we're not texting, we're making a "kawl". If we were doing it right, we'd be making a "kaal".

Newark. Do you know anyone from "Nork"? If you do, they're actually from Noo-urk.

Sauce. The battle in New Jersey is whether it's "sawce" or gravy, not whether it's "sawce" or "saas".
