When you see the famous face of Tillie, you're first thought is, of course, Asbury Park. So what's the history behind Tillie?

We want to share with you a couple of Tillie facts so you know some of the history behind that iconic face.

According to theinnsofoceangrove.com, the name is in honor of George C. Tilyou, who owned Steeplechase Park in Coney Island and the man who brought Steeplechase Amusements to Ocean Ave.

In June 2004, just prior to the demolition of Asbury's Palace Amusements, a group of volunteers removed it for preservation.

If you miss seeing Tillie overlooking Asbury Park, you don't have to go far. You can see a replica of Tillie's face on the Wonder Bar on Ocean Ave.

It's pretty amazing that we are a stone's throw from these amazing historical spots each Friday morning all summer during our live broadcasts from the New Jersey Natural Gas Asbury Park Boardwalk Studio.
