We like to think Monmouth & Ocean Counties are the jewels of the Garden State. And we are right. But sometimes national publicity about New Jersey tends to sell us short and pay way too much attention to other parts of the state.

We love our fellow New Jersey residents in Atlantic City and Cape May, but let's be honest. You guys can't get all the attention all the time. Monmouth & Ocean Counties' Jersey Shore continue to be one of the biggest destinations in the state.

So with all our attractions, beaches, boardwalks and restaurants, how is it that in a recent publication, only six of the top 25 things to do in New Jersey are here in Monmouth and Ocean Counties?

Lets spend a second celebrating the 6 Monmouth/Ocean destinations that made the Family Destinations Guide list, because we do love these places, and they do deserve the honor.

Best Things To Do At The Jersey Shore

Number 2 on the list is the gorgeous Island Beach State Park. It's a favorite of locals and tourists. The trick of course, is to get there before it reaches capacity. This amazing spot definitely deserves it's lofty place on this list.

Just nudging its way into the top 5 is Six Flags Great Adventure. It's thrills and chills and just awesome family fun, and there it is right in our backyard. Lucky us! Who doesn't want  a summer Great Adventure!

It's an amazing lighthouse and the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park has a great showing on this list. This beautiful spot secures spot #

Coming in at #12 is one that may not be a place that comes to mind when you think of this topic, but the sheer history of it all makes Monmouth Battlefield State Park a great choice for this list.

One local place that usually gets underrated but has happily made it to this list is the adorable Tuckerton Seaport. It comes in at #14 and it really is a nice day trip destination.

It makes this list, and I don't want to seem unappreciative, but I absolutely think Jenkinson's Boardwalk should be way higher on the list, but we're still thrilled for the love it's being shown at #22!

Now, I just feel the need to say that we could have easily had a few more Monmouth/Ocean entries here. For instance, where's Red Bank, Seaside and Asbury Park? We appreciate what we got, but we're the Jersey Shore. We always want more!
