Nothing is easy in New Jersey, not even waiting on line to pay for something. I got some dirty looks the other day and I want to know why.

I was on line with a bunch of items in my cart, maybe 20. You would think that the guy on on line would be glad I didn't have a full cart but he wasn't. He had about a half dozen things in his arms and had just tried the 12 items or less lane but it was packed, so he got behind me.

Now he was mad that he qualified for the express lane but couldn't take advantage of it and I was on line in front of him. He actually wanted me to let him go ahead of me. Really?

Now, don't get me wrong. There have been plenty of times when I've offered to let a mom with her kids and a full cart get ahead of me, or a senior citizen go first. That's the least I could do and I would do it every time.

But this guy was clearly able to wait in line and had no reason to think he should go ahead except for the fact that he was one of those people who thinks his busy day is always busier than yours and his rush to be done is more important than yours. Doesn't that happen way too much in New Jersey? If you don't think so, take a ride on the Parkway sometime.

I even went as far as to peek at his items to make sure he wasn't holding any children's medication or diapers or something that needed to get home urgently. Nope. He had a vegetable tray, chips, Diet Coke and some other football related items.

So it seems that the big rush was kickoff. For the record, I let him go ahead of me just in case there was some good reason for his rush that I just couldn't figure out. Better to be safe I guess.
