Winter is underway, and sometimes you just want to cozy up on the couch with a warm cup of cocoa...but why not spice it up a little and turn it into a yummy cocktail?

This week's drink is creamy and sweet with just a hint of spice to warm you up from the inside out.

Let's do it!

You can totally make this from scratch using unsweetened cocoa powder, milk, and sugar...or cheat and use the regular cocoa packets. (I like a nice happy medium of the premium hot cocoa powders that you have to make with milk, like the kind by Ghirardelli.)

I would use a darker cocoa mix for this as the rest of the ingredients are already pretty sweet, so the bitterness of the dark chocolate will lend a nice balance.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. chocolate vodka
  • 1 oz. Rumchata (a cinnamon, rum, and cream liqueur)
  • .5 oz chocolate liqueur (optional)
  • 6 oz. hot cocoa
  • cinnamon stick, to garnish (optional)
  • marshmallows, to garnish (optional)
  • mini dark chocolate chips, to garnish (optional)

Combine all ingredients into a mug and stir. Garnish with a few marshmallows and a cinnamon stick (or dash of ground cinnamon). Add a few dark chocolate chips for an extra chocolate treat!

Switch it up:

For a spicier drink, swap out the chocolate vodka for cinnamon whisky (like Fireball) or cinnamon schnapps.
Use white hot chocolate instead of regular for a super sweet treat.

*Please drink responsibly.*
