Rum Punch – Cocktail of the Week
It's the last official week of summer, and since this might be the last time we see 80 degrees for a while, let's enjoy a yummy summer cocktail -- besides, it's festive!
Why festive? Apparently Sunday, September 20th is National Punch (the beverage, not the action.) Day. Whatever, it's a reason to celebrate!
I love rum punch because it's just as easy and delicious as sangria, which is my summer go-to.
The basic premise is to throw the things you like into a pitcher, give it a stir, and go! It can serve as many, or as few, as you choose. I don't judge!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (8 oz.) white rum
- 1 cup (8 oz.) coconut rum
- .5cup (4 oz.) pineapple rum
- .25 cup (2 oz.) grenadine
- 1 cup (8 oz.) fresh lime juice
- 1 cup (8 oz.) orange juice
- .5 cup (4 oz.) pineapple juice
- dark rum, to float (optional)
- maraschino cherries/lime wedges/pineapple/orange slices, to garnish (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher, and stir. To serve, pour over ice and garnish with whatever fruit you'd like. For an extra kick, float a little dark rum on the top of each glass before serving.
Switch it up:
Use different flavored rums, like orange, mango, or banana (or just keep it plain!)
Use more or less rum or juice to suit your tastes.
Use spices as a garnish, like fresh nutmeg or cinnamon grated on top!
