I don't know about you, but when it comes to Spring cocktails, I always want to reach for something fresh, bright, and with a hint of fresh fruit.

It's even better when it involves a bare minimum of ingredients.

Pour yourself a Spring Fling, our cocktail of the week.

It's a fruity take on a basic vodka lemonade.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz. vodka
  • 1 oz. melon liqueur (like Midori)
  • 3 oz. fresh lemonade, *recipe below. (If you're feeling especially lazy, you can use the bottled stuff, but it tastes so much better when it's fresh!)
  • lemon wheel (to garnish)

Shake all ingredients with ice. Garnish with lemon wheel. You can sugar the rim if you want, but part of the appeal of this cocktail is its simplicity, so...why add extra work?

It looks like fresh green foliage, and tastes like sunshine. Sounds perfect to me!

Switch it up:

Use limeade instead of lemonade.
Use white rum instead of vodka, or if you're feeling especially rowdy, try this with a good blanco tequila.
Use a flavored vodka, like cucumber melon...or better yet, make your own cucumber vodka by muddling chopped cucumber with the vodka, and then straining out the liquid to make the cocktail.

*Lemonade recipe -- This makes a small pitcher...adjust as necessary.

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup simple syrup (To make simple syrup, combine equal parts water and sugar, and bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Let the mixture cool. Done.)

Mix all ingredients with ice. Stir well. Adjust the amount of sugar/lemon/water to suit your taste. Good to go.

*Please drink responsibly.*
