This Thursday, November 19th, is Children's Grief Awareness Day. Show your support by wearing blue.

Please help to honor grieving children and teens by wearing the color blue on Thursday. Whether it's a blue ribbon or you go entirely blue for the day, it is important to remember how difficult a journey it is when a child loses a parent, sibling, or any close relative or friend.

Common Ground Grief Center in Manasquan has brought hope and healing in a safe and nurturing environment to hundred of grieving children and families in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Their mission is to provide support in a safe place where children, teens and their families grieving a death can come together and share their experiences as they begin the journey through the grief process.

The Center offers ongoing peer support groups for kids and teens ages 6 - 18. Parent support groups run concurrently while the children or teens are in their groups.

Common Ground's peer support groups are offered at no charge to families. They serve over a hundred children and teens each month from over 75 surrounding towns. They have increased the number of support groups so that no child or teen has to remain on a wait list.

Common Ground has many volunteers who complete rigorous training in order to run the support groups. They have also expanded the program to offer 2 'adult only' support groups at their Spring Lake location specific to suicide loss and child loss.

Common Ground Grief Center also provides training on grief to schools and community organizations. And thanks to Assemblyman Dave Rible, a bill was signed into law creating a statewide mandate that now designates the third Thursday in November each year as Children's Grief Awareness Day.

New Jersey was the FIRST STATE to have this bill signed into law.
